MA MCJ (Master of Arts in Mass Communication and Journalism) is a four semester graduate program of Purbanchal University (PU). It is under the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at the university.
Master's degree in Mass Communication and Journalism started in 2001 at the following institutions:
- Under the Purbanchal University (PU), two private colleges viz. Kantipur City College (KCC), Putalisadak and College of Mass Communication and Journalism (CJMC) started MA MCJ degree.
- Under the Tribhuvan University (TU), Ratna Rajya Campus started Masters degree in Journalism and Mass Communication.
Almost at the same time these three colleges started the course. PU started it in a 4-semester system while TU started the degree in 2-year system. But very recently in 2015, TU has switched to a 4-semester system.
MA MCJ at KCC is run by the Department of
Mass Communication and Journalism, under the School of Humanities and Social
Sciences and is devoted to graduate teaching and research in vivid fields of
mass communication, journalism, and social sciences.
It offers a graduate degree to respond to the phenomenal
growth of the mass media in Nepal and the need for competent, trained,
professionals equipped with the latest knowledge in ICT sector.
The
subject-based modules of the program arm the students with theoretical
information, and the practical research work equips them with real
professional talents.
This program is useful for both fresh graduates
and working journalists.
